Memorial Day Reflection
From the desk of Rep. Dante Pittman
This Memorial Day weekend, we pause to honor the service members who gave their lives for the freedom of our country. Their sacrifice is felt in the everyday freedoms that we enjoy here at home. In North Carolina, we are proud of our strong military bases, the commitment of our active service members in our state, and the devotion of our North Carolina National Guard. As a Captain in the National Guard, I am extremely proud to share the uniform with those currently serving and those who came before us.
Our state’s deep military roots connect us to this day in a personal way. Many families across North Carolina know the weight of service and understand the immeasurable cost when a loved one makes the ultimate sacrifice. Memorial Day is about honoring our fallen and recognizing the families who carry the legacy of their service. Their continued commitment to preserving their loved ones’ memories inspires us to live with purpose and gratitude.
This weekend, as we gather with family and friends, attend ceremonies, or take a moment of silence, we are reminded that our unity as a nation is strengthened when we recognize those who sacrificed for us. During these divided times, we need to remember the fabric that binds us together as Americans and the cost of the freedoms we enjoy.
This Memorial Day, may we come together in reflection and appreciation. And may we carry forward the legacy of those who served by supporting veterans, uplifting our communities, and striving each day to build a country worthy of their sacrifice. It is an honor to serve the brave men and women who protect our country, as well as the families that support them.
